The First 7 Days
You can self certify short absences from work for minor illnesses. Your employer can provide you with an SC2 self-certificate form for short periods of illness, or you can obtain a digital copy.
After 7 Days
You only need a doctor’s note (now known as a Fit Note) if you are unable to work and are ill for longer than seven calendar days. Please make a routine appointment with your usual GP to discuss this further. Fit notes can be backdated if needed, so you do not need to be seen urgently or on the day your fit note expires.
